The Fake House...

I learned the term "fake house" from my older sister, Michelle. She and Peter discovered the phrase while watching one of my favorite shows, Everybody Loves Raymond. By definition, a "fake house" is a home that appears spotlessly clean and basically unlived in whenever guests come over. And yet somehow is never clean any other time, making the cleanliness part the "fake" part. Well, today was not a fake house day. This is my kitchen at exactly 3:30 this afternoon. This picture was taken immediately after I hung up from the following phone conversation:

Me-"Hello?"

Stake President's wife/perfect woman-"Mollie, your home!"

Me-"Yeah...(slightly concerned but trying to sound up beat) what's up?!)

S.P.W./P.W.-"You know Bishop Burton (THE Bishop Burton) is in town for stake conference and is staying with us, right? Well, my oven just went out!"

Me-"Oh no! (OOOHHH NNOOOOO!)"

P.W.-"I just finished putting together an apple pie, (of course!;)) I was wondering if I might borrow your oven?"

Me (through the tears)-"OF COURSE! What should I set my oven to?"

30 seconds later I took this picture, 60 seconds later she was at my door. Of course she was sooo kind and offered to help clean while she waited.....ohhhh, the humanity. This delightful tidbit is just the cherry on top of a week that definitely helped me to "realize my capacity" as was promised to me in a blessing I received last Sunday. Onward to a cleaner home and a new day tomorrow! (Somehow, when we share that which is most embarassing, it becomes humorous! Magic!)

Of course, when your house is clean, no one ever shows up unexpectedly!

If I ever get a new house, the floor plan will be totally different than mine is now. The family room will be far, far away from the front door so I can have a beautiful "living room" to have guests come into when they show up without calling! I will also have a hall bath which no one uses on a regular basis, only for guests! Such a beautiful dream, a fake house all the time!!!

Who hasn't had this happen to them at one time or another! Right now I have to have a "fake house" all the time. We are trying to sell and I just don't want to be caught with a messy house when someone wants to come and take a look. It really is stressfull!

Oh, Mollie! Thank you for sharing! I was finally pleasantly surprised the other night when someone showed up when the living room was actually clean! (the state of the rest of the house, was, unfortunately but typical, quite messy).

I thought what Michelle thought...clean floor! I bet the Stake President's wife was remembering when she had an impossible-to-keep-spotless-because-you're-raising-young-children house. You are awesome to offer your home/help regardless of what your house looks like, or the day you had that might have made it that way!

Oh, I so have a fake house too. Actually the only time it really is super-duper clean is when people are coming over. So nice you have a fake house too!

Oh my gosh! I'm sorry! Makes for a great story though! I'm so glad to see other people don't have a spotless house all the time either...actually, mine is almost NEVER spotless :(
