The Beginning...

Kennedi saw a preview for a news show covering orphan children as victims of war. I explained that MANY children lived in similar circumstances around the world. She was shocked at their condition and situation and wanted to immediately send toys and art supplies to these children. I explained that the mail in these countries was not reliable. We would need to send our supplies with some one traveling to such a place.
Our Stake President and his wife were planning such a trip to Honduras. We asked if we could send something with them, and LuAnn suggested the fleece stuffed balls made from the pattern found on LDS.org. We went to work, Kennedi LOVED this project, and I was surprised how much my girls loved to play with such a simple toy. We even got to go over to the S.P.'s house the morning they were leaving and help pack the toys.
LuAnn was so sweet to make this poster for Kennedi with pictures of some of the children who received our balls. This is Kennedi's favorite picture.

The children who received them were having their hearing checked, and were understandably nervous. LuAnn had us all in tears as she described the positive impact of our simple gift; fears were calmed and happiness replaced it.
Now, we have the connection (the group of LDS medical professionals they traveled with goes every year) and we plan to make many more toys for the sweet, less fortunate children of the world. Kennedi says she wants to go help deliver the toys as soon as she is old enough.....What fun that would be!!!

Wow, I didn't know that this was Kennedi's idea! I'll bet she was so excited to get the poster and pictures of the children with the toys she helped to make! And what a thoughtful idea on LuAnn's part to make a poster!

I guess some of her grandpa's and mom's compassion for others is coming out in her big heart! Tell her grandma is very proud of what she (with the help of her mom!) has accomplished!

Okay, that made me cry! What a sweet girl to share with others. I am sure she will be very loving and giving throughout life because of experiences like this that you encourage her in.

Those children are just so cute. I'm glad they have such a thoughtful gift to help give them courage and know that they are loved!
