The Man of my dreams, The Man that can do anything.

Okay, deeeep breath. As many of you know, The Man of my dreams had a serious accident on Saturday. We were down in Olympia, and he was doing some finishing work on the interior of a skylight in his mom's front room. He was near the top of an eight foot ladder (she has vaulted ceilings), when for unclear reasons he fell, getting his legs caught IN the ladder, landing with the back of his head first, hitting a coffee table. Kennedi was our only "Star Witness" so the details of the actual fall are somewhat speculation. What we do know is that the injury caused him to immediately go into a temporary seizure-like state and resulted in some swelling and bleeding and bruising on the left side of his brain. This injury has resulted in some loss of function on the right side of the body, loss of some cognitive ability, and some loss memory. It was originally thought that his spinal cord may have been affected, but we believe that has been ruled out. At this point he will be in the hospital in Olympia until he can meet the criteria (be able to participate in 3 total hours of therapy a day, sitting up on his own for a certain amount of time, standing, and hopefully walking) to transfer to an in-patient facility up closer to our home. Karlin is frustrated and tired, but has begun to come out of the fog a little more and is really trying to do whatever it takes to just get home(his one constant request). I want to thank everyone who has loved us through this trial thus far. The Man of my dreams has a long road ahead, but he is here with us and I could not ask for more.

I know it is hard to see someone like Karlin (the man who truly can do anything) down and out. One of my professors said something yesterday that I think might be helpful. He said that the atonement doesn't make everything equal by requiring everyone to have the same amount of suffering in life; rather it is Christ's promise that no matter the level of suffering we are asked to go through, he will provide sufficient comfort and healing according to our suffering. I know that He will give you what you need. We love you and will keep you in our prayers.

I don't even know what to say! Your post was wonderful, especially the last line. I can't imagine what your family must be going through. It really puts our lives into perspective to be reminded of what is really important.
We will be praying for you.

Hi Mollie and Karlin,
You have been in our prayers constantly. Olivia talks about "Uncle Collin" all the time. We just love you and would love to be helpful in any way. What can we do? How are you feeling Karlin? Call us anytime.
