Happy Pioneer Day!

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we celebrate the 24th of July as the day our persecuted ancestors arrived in the state now known a Utah. Here they finally found freedom from persecution and prejudice. To celebrate Pioneer Day today, the girls and I thought it would be fun to make little felt bonnets.
Last night for Family Home Evening, after a lesson on how the pioneers lived as they crossed the plains to Utah, we made pretzel log cabins. Kennedi said she wanted to make a mountain next to her cabin, I think she just wanted more Easy Cheese...delicious :p.
Our patriotic cabin with a flag pole. Next year, I think I will use graham crackers as the main structure with soy nut butter. (Klare's allergic to peanuts.) Then cover with pretzels, I think that would look more authentic. I am so grateful to all of the brave men and women who have made this wonderful country all that it is! Happy 24th of July!

The girls look so cute in those bonnets! How neat that you are teaching them about Pioneer Day, honestly, I didn't even really know about it until I moved to Utah because there it is bigger than the 4th of July! I love the cabins, so cute!

Love that you did pioneer day with the kids. I am doing a special Pioneer Sharing time on Sunday, I don't thing the kids here really know what a pioneer is unless they have family from Utah! I will post pics, I am totally going all out!

That's a great idea to teach them about the pioneers! Looks like they had a ton of fun. We're lame, we live in Utah and didn't even talk to Vanessa about the pioneers. Maybe next year.
